Abstract/Description

TAC report to the CGIAR synthesizing the outcome of two panel studies of CGIAR activities, one on policy and management, and the other on institutional strengthening research and service. The record also includes an excerpt from the summary of proceedings of the CGIAR meeting of May 1966, and a transmittal from the TAC Chair. The two background documents are in separate records.TAC's report concluded that the strategic directions of CGIAR activities covered were appropriate, and the work was of high quality. It suggested priority be given to policy research on the public-private interface, common property resources, generic policy studies, and political economy. More research was needed on institutional development, and the role and management problems of non-profit organizations of civil society. These documents would serve as background for the consideration of CGIAR strategies and priorities, and the external reviews of ISNAR and IFPRI.These subjects and the background reports were discussed at TAC meetings 66 through 69. Agenda document at the CGIAR meeting in May 1996.
